Welcome!

Limehills is a shining-light rural school in the Southland Plains, half an hour north of Invercargill, seven minutes from Winton and under two hours from New Zealand’s adventure-capital, Queenstown.  Set against a breathtaking scenic backdrop, it is the jewel of a prosperous farming community that surrounds and supports its every endeavour.

Limehills is a year 1-8 school with over 150 pupils.  It is highly sought-after for its inspirational approach and all-round record of success – academic and sporting. Technology here is cutting edge, with dedicated multi-media teaching and latest electronic advances for learning, embraced.

Central to Limehills is its Enviro status.  We have a well-established nature area and waste-reduction is solidly embedded in school life.  It is also an environment where teachers believe in facilitating opportunities, then stepping back to allow the children to work their magic.

At Limehills, you’ll find the next generation of business minds and smell the waft of entrepreneurial spirit.  Home to Lambsworth Station – a sheep and cattle-trading business created and run by the pupils – it also delivers a weekly on-site cooperative, selling school-grown and other local produce.  Pupils plan and manage all aspects of their ventures and all profits go into further developing the businesses. For these ultra dedicated kids, fencing, rounding, feeding animals and nurturing crops are part of daily life and done in non-class time. They then gather behind closed doors, the “on air” light sparks and it’s time to give the Hokonui Gold radio station an update on the wheelings and dealings of the prior few weeks.  You’d be forgiven for thinking the wry, articulate and worldly-wise characters at the end of the microphone have been around for another generation.
Limehills School is proud of its zero tolerance of bullying.  Children are encouraged to find their own solutions to problems and to respect and look out for their peers. At Limehills, the children themselves do not tolerate bullying and any rogue elements are quickly taught the culture of the school before adult intervention is needed.  As well, a buddy programme sees new entrants paired up with older pupils who help and mentor them on their journey.

“Simply The Best!”  You’ll see that banner as you walk in the gates.  Put Simply, that’s what we are.
