About us
Limehills is a very highly regarded year 1-8 school with approximately 150 pupils in the Southland Plains, half an hour north of Invercargill, seven minutes from Winton and under two hours from New Zealand’s adventure-capital, Queenstown. Set against a breathtaking scenic backdrop, it is the heart of a vibrant farming community that surrounds and supports its every endeavour. Our school is highly sought after for its inspirational approach to teaching and learning and proud record of academic, sporting, cultural, artistic and social successes.
Integral to our curriculum is our Student Volunteer Army and Enviroschool philosophy. We have a well-established native forest and waste-reduction is embedded into school life. Our students manage a school farm, currently grazing 20 ewes. Students grow a variety of fruit and vegetables, which are eaten on site or sold alongside our other products at our co-operative. Pupils plan and manage all aspects of these ventures and reinvest their profits into projects that further enhance their school.
Limehills School is proud of its zero tolerance of bullying. Our Tuakana Teina buddy programmes ensure new entrants are paired up with older pupils, who mentor them on their learning journey through all aspects of our exciting curriculum.
Our Mission statement:
"Limehills kids will take ownership of their learning and embrace challenges with a ‘can-do’ attitude"

ERO gave us a four-five year review, placing us in the top echelon of "very high performing" schools in NZ. Our exceptional teachers believe in facilitating opportunities for meaningful, hands-on learning experiences, then stepping back to allow the children to work their magic.
